Completion of Ironwoods New Water Pumping Station Moves Forward

The City of Ironwood has received $11.4 million grant from the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy’s Economically Disadvantaged and Small Disadvantaged Communities program to finish work on the $22 million water pump station project. The filtration system is the second part of a two-phase project to build a new pump station that will replace Ironwood’s almost 100-year-old facilities. The original plan was to complete the project in one phase, but by the time the city began accepting bids for the project, estimates were well over budget with inflation. Phase 1 of the project should finish by early 2025 and Phase 2 is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
