Ashland Raising City Services Rates

The next time Ashland resident open their bill for trash, they may be surprised. Starting this weekend, costs for trash service will increase 5%, as agreed to by the city and Republic Services. According to TheLakelandTimes, Republic is charging the city 27% more than before, so to offset those costs 48 gallon containers will cost $12.75 a month rather than the usual $10.00. Larger containers will see similar increases. The increase in fees comes as residents will also face rising water rates that will increase this summer. City Administrator Brant Kucera said what the city charges for trash and water service is on par with other communities. He also said a more gradual increase in rates would be preferable next go round, so as not to stress residents.
