Wisconsin state ag officials late last week confirmed that a captive 3 year-old doe at a northwestern state shooting preserve tested positive for chronic wasting disease. TheAshlandDailyPress report the doe came from Thundeer Trophy Whitetails in Birchwood after being transferred from Rodenkirch Whitetails and Genetics, a deer farm in Beaver Dam, to the preserve on Oct. 4 of last year. According to state records, Wisconsin has about 300 deer farms or shooting preserves. Forty-one have seen animals infected with chronic wasting disease since 2001. The disease has forced 22 facilities to destroy their herds. Eight deer farms and 12 shooting preserves with the disease are still in operation, according to the state.
