ATV Use on All Bayfield Highways Moves Forward

The Bayfield County Highway Committee at their meeting last week voted to move forward with the recommendation of a proposal to allow ATVs on all county highways. According to TheAshlandDailyPress, the move is over objections of residents who worry about safety, and the fact that ATV riders don’t have to have liability insurance to ride in Wisconsin. There is also concern that the additional riders in the county will make more work for the Bayfield County Sheriff’s Department. The proposal will now go to the full county board, with the proviso that the move be on a one-year trial basis and with the county retaining the right to close any highway if problems with ATV’s arise.
