In Wisconsin, teachers are leaving the public school system in the highest numbers seen since 2012, at about a rate of 16% according to WXPR. Teacher turnover is normal, however, according to Mark Sommerhauser, communications director of the Wisconsin Policy Forum, the high turnover has a negative effect on the students and student outcomes. Research has proven that grant programs and programs that “grow” teachers directly from the communities can help, as well as providing programs that provide affordable housing for teachers when they accept positions in the community.
