Schools in the State to Get Budget Boost

This year’s Michigan state budget includes an increase in funding for schools. School districts are slated to receive just over $9,600 per K-12 student, which is a $458.00 per student increase from last year. In addition to the increased student funding, the largest budget in the state of Michigan’s history includes $125 million for school district’s transit costs, which rural schools will draw great benefit from, as transportation costs are one of the highest segments of a school district’s budget, with vehicles, drivers, fuel, and maintenance.
