Vilas County is a lot of thing to a lot of people and now its one of the best places to monitor the bat population of the county. According to WXPR, A high school project by a student has resulted in some of the biggest volume of information on the various species of bats in the county. Emma Perry, a graduate of Northland Pines SOAR Charter High School started the project for an assignment, and using one of three acoustic monitors available in the county. Emma’s enthusiasm as well as other citizen scientists have provided crucial information about the bat population in the area, which can affect the county’s human population. She hopes that younger students will continue to be interested in the bats and the study in Vilas County.
