Bayfield City Attorney Says Termination of Marina Contract Legal

At a meeting of the Bayfield Harbor Commission last week, committee attorney Max Lindsey said all the discussions that committee members have had in previous months regarding the marina were legal and had not violated state open meeting law. The DailyPress says the commission voted last month the end their lease with Bill and Doreen Peterson of B&D Marine effectively putting them out of business and putting 13 employees out of a job. There has been public concern regarding the fact that the commission wasn’t transparent in its dealings. Attorney Lindsey has stated that the commission has acted within the law. The city stands to gain almost $100,000 by taking over operation of the marina. The commission took no action and set its next monthly meetings.
