The Porcupine Mountain Winter Sports complex opened for the season on Friday and this year, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources is in charge of the operations of the facility. Prior to this weekend, the MDNR worked in partnership with Gogebic Community College. Currently, the department will run the park and concessions will be run by a company called Simple Adventures, who will handle all the inside operations, including the food, rentals, and the gift shop. Park Manager Michael Kanck said the turnout is better than anticipated. Starting sometime this month, Porcupine Mountain will offer lantern snowshoe walk on weekends.
