The Bessemer Downtown Development Agency at their meeting last week discussed a number of projects to broaden the city’s appeal, including more parking, new trees on Main Street and perhaps event a new YMCA or rec center. According to the Globe, the head of the DDAsaid she has studied the city’s master plan and whatever goals the city sets should be done as efficiently and inexpensively as possible. She said there should also be attention paid to what makes Bessemer special. The suggestion for a YMCA came from a resident during the public comment portion of the meeting. No decisions were made but members noted the importance of moving forward with whatever benefits the greatest number of residents and objectives.
