Work on U.S. 2 Through Bessemer Nearly Complete After Almost 2 Years

U.S. 2 is open and traffic is flowing freely after two summers of multiple detours in the process of rebuilding the much traveled roadwaytht runs through Bessemer. The Globe reports the project covered 2.7 miles of U.S. 2 from Powdermill Creek on the west side of the city just east of Cedar Avenue, near Memory Lane Roadside Park on the east side. The Michigan Department of Transportation project, along with a utility upgrade paid for by the city of Bessemer was also partially funded by a grant from the U.S.D.A. Traffic signals should be fully operational soon, signage and street painting are expected to be done at weeks end. The numerous repairs and rebuilds are expected to greatly benefit the city of Bessemer.
