The Ironwood Board of Commissioners at their last meeting agreed to accept the recycling bid submitted by Waste Management rather than renewing the city’s contract with Republic Services. The contract with Republic Services expired last Wednesday, and their bid contained language that essentially said rates would increase based on the price of diesel, increasing on a sliding scale for every 25 cents over $4.65 per gallon. The Waste Management bid contained a flat rate. The board agreed that the price of fuel is too unstable to accept terms like Republics. The board also decided on a long-term contract with Waste Management as their bid included a discount per haul.
