At a joint meeting last week, the Human Resources and Finance committees of the Vilas County board approved wage increases for corrections officers at the county jail as well as staff members in the social services department. The approval follows a resolution from the county board to withdraw $1,000,o00 from the general fund to hire new officers and staff for those two departments, as well as raise for existing staff. A $3 an hour raise for corrections officers will go before the full board when they meet on the 24th, and the two committees will consider ideas on how to retain staff at their meetings.
