Bessemer to Apply for Grants to Expand Iron Belle Trailhead

City Manager Charly Loper told the Bessemer Recreation Committee before the Christmas break that she thought it would be prudent to apply for two grants available to help cover the cost of a new trailhead for the Iron Bell Trail behind City Hall. One of the grants, from the Economic Development Authority would require matching funds from the city, which Bessemer has set aside. The other is from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources . An economic impact study found that the addition of a trailhead to the Iron Belle Trail could increase the accessibility of the downtown area and therefore could increase the economic spending in the area by trail visitors.
