Design Work on New Water Treatment Plant Brings Up Questions

The city of Ironwood is discussing supplementing the level of fluoride in the water system as it designs the new water treatment plant. Most of the population of the state has fluorinated water, including Ironwood’s neighbor city, Wakefield. The city commission has heard recommendations on fluoridation from healthcare professionals, who say fluoride is important for dental health. According to Sandy Sutton, MDHHS community water fluoridation coordinator, a grant is available to more than cover the cost of the addition of fluoride, and the commission approved applying for the grant unanimously.
