This past Thursday, elementary students at Hurley K-12 school spent the afternoon getting an up-close look at fire department equipment and learned about fire safety as part of Fire Prevention Month and Fire Prevention Week. Firefighters from the Hurley Fire Department met with more than 200 students from pre-k through fifth grade. Kids learned about the trucks and watched demonstrations of the “jaws of life” and other extraction equipment. The event gave an age appropriate reinforcement of fire safety and the importance of the fire service.
