The Hurley City Council at their last meeting authorized the Department of Public works to switch from the current automatic meter reading systems to the advanced metering infrastructure system or AMI. The new system will cost just under $247,000 for the 860 water meters themselves and another just under $70,000 for installation. The system will be funded by $150,000 in funds received from the American Rescue Plan Act and the city will seek additional funds through a Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources grant. The new system will have a longer lifespan and will provide ready access to information by customers via a website or app.
