Trail in Michigan Will Open to ORVs

The Michigan DNR has approved Trail 2, from Wakefield to the Michigan/Wisconsin border in Hurley, for Off Road Vehicle use, according to the Gogebic Range Trail Authority (GRTA). GRTA president Jerry Nezworski called it “a long time in the making,” involving numerous meetings and property owner visits to secure approval, insurance, and DNR funding. A ribbon cutting celebrating the milestone was held Friday at the SL Trailhead in Wakefield. The GRTA thanked many, including former president Steve Hamilton and current president Jerry Nezworski and vice president Karen Gullan, whose efforts began eight years ago and finalized approvals after Hamilton’s departure. Volunteers and DNR representatives Jeff Kakuk and Carly Graff were also thanked. The GRTA maintains about 100 miles of county trails.
