The Gogebic County Board of Commissioners voted to thank Greg Basom for organizing the Snowmobile Olympus, despite his decision not to organize this year’s event. Basom’s decision stems from a disagreement over fairground track usage fees, a change from previous arrangements when the county allowed free use. Basom, who revived the event in 2019-20, has run the Snowmobile Olympus since then, except when it was cancelled due to the pandemic in 2021 and again in 2024 due to the fire at the Gogebic County Fairgrounds says he’s trying to figure out what he could do to continue the event, but at present doesn’t have an answer to that question.
