There were no injuries after a fire in a minivan at the Ontonagon Area High School on Friday. The Ontonagon Volunteer Fire Department got the call around 5:45 p.m. Fortunately there was a firefighter already at the school for the Halloween carnival. That firefighter sprung into action, grabbing a fire extinguisher and using it on the van. Other firefighters who lived nearby also responded. By the time Engine 18 arrived, there was still a little smoke coming from the van and the battery was disconnected. Firefighters cleared the scene within about 30 minutes and Dishaw Towing came to take the van from the parking lot. Quick action by all those involved helped keep any other vehicles from catching fire and kept damage on the minivan to a minimum.
