The Lac du Flambeau town board has authorized another payment to the Lac du Flambeau tribe for continued access to four roads on tribal land. TheLakelandTimes reports the town will pay $44,000 for the period from May 12th through June 12th. That amount brings the total paid to the tribe since the beginning of the dispute to $456,000. Meanwhile, the town board is working with legal counsel to craft a proposal that will hopefully resolve the easement dispute with the tribe. Currently, the tribe contends that the town owes nearly $10 million for expired easements for those roads. The town will ask the tribe to consider granting 5 to 10 year easements rather than the one year terms in force right now. The town council will meet with town counsel Thursday afternoon to go over the final draft of the proposal before sending it.
