Loans and Grants to Help Two Communities in the U.P.

Two communities in the Upper Peninsula have received just over $2.5 million in loans and grants from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Water and Waste Disposal Loan and Grant Program. Wakefield in Gogebic county will use its loan to complete improvements to the water distribution system, improving fire flows, water main capacity and to improve aging water infrastructure. Baraga, in Baraga County will use a $1,272,880 loan and $727,120 grant to complete the third phase of improvements to its water system. The project will address health and sanitary concerns.
