At last week’s meeting of the Gogebic County Board of Commissioners, the fair presented a written proposal for it’s version of the 2024 county fair. TheDailyGlobe reports the Fair Board presented the proposal to the board, along and pointed out that the annual event brings in almost $100K a year. The proposal also stressed that a break in the fair schedule could result in the loss of harness racing and difficulty in booking the carnival in subsequent years. The proposal was accepted and entered into the record, but Commissioner Laabs said the fair should be delayed until it could be held safely, and also stated that if the fair board decided to move forward, it would have to be without the Gogebic County name, county funding, and insurance and would have to hold on property other than the fairgrounds.
