The town of St. Germain has discovered it has a surplus of around $138,000 in ARPA funds after the news that they won’t have to pay for installing broadband infrastructure for the town. According to TheLakelandTimes, the town board had entered into an agreement with ChoiceTel of Eagle River to start construction of a fiber optic network for the town, after being told by Spectrum cable that the town wasn’t large enough to warrant installation of the network. However, a government grant came into the picture and now Spectrum, a division of Charter Communications is building that network. So now the problem St. Germain has is how to spend those remaining ARPA dollars which must be earmarked for spending by the end of 2024.
