The Wakefield City Council has voted unanimously to allow the use of Old US-2 as a segment of snowmobile 2 again this season. US 2 was used as a reroute for 2022 after property owners for a segment of the trail rescinded their easement. Although there were some hitches during the use last year, the city plans to post plenty of signs about oncoming four wheeled traffic on that segment of the trail. The city of Wakefield continues to work with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources to find a more suitable solution, and there may be the potential of moving the trail farther to the north and establish a separate trail from the roadway.
