Although the Gogebic County Board of Commissioners announced recently that there would be no plans for a county fair in 2024 in order to allow for reconstruction of the fairgrounds, at another meeting at the end of October, County Board Chairman James Lorenson said some form of a county fair might be possible, if circumstances allowed it. TheDailyGlobe reports the board is waiting on a formal report from the Fire Marshal, which is needed to finish negotiations with the insurance companies that covered the property and buildings. One possible option would be to hold the fair at the Iron County Fairgrounds in Saxon, according to Fair Coordinator Marlene Saari. Many board members feel the Board of Commissioners are draggin their feet, Fair Board Chairman James Burns is asking for patience, that there are things in the works. The next meeting of the fair board will be December 4th.
