The new 6,000 square foot Negaunee Regional Communications Center is now online. A ribbon cutting and grand opening ceremony was held earlier in the month, and the new center is designed to accommodate up to 16 emergency dispatch positions, employing a total of 24 people including managers. The center will provide full service 911 call handling and dispatch of MSP, local law enforcement and EMS and Fire services for a good portion of the U.P., including Gogebic, Ontonagon, Baraga, Houghton, Keweenaw and Schoolcraft counties. The $4 million dollar state funded center has up-to-date technology and other features to help operators in the center function at their peak.
