Four Vilas County towns have banded together on a project that has created an EMS District to help serve and protect their communities. TheNewsReviewReports the project started almost two years ago and is almost near completion. Manitowish Waters, Presque Isle, Winchester and Boulder Junction all joined in talks as to what each community needed and what the district would entail. Funding would be tax based from each town. Its estimated the combined EMS district would cost taxpayers around $37 per $100,000 of assessed property value. A certain number of public meetings are required before moving forward, and once all towns involved have approved their resolutions, a district oversight commission would be formed.
