In light of the disastrous fire at the Gogebic County Fairgrounds at the end of September, the Gogebic County Board of Commissioners voted at their meeting last week to cancel next year’s county fair. TheDailyGlobe reports the vote and cancellation comes 10 months before the event and after the fire that destroyed buildings on the fairgrounds after demolition was underway. Board chairman Jim Lorenson said no major events can take place at the fairgrounds and that the board was waiting on the fire marshall’s report to determine the next move, and that the report could be a month in coming. Lorenson also stated that very specific questions about the county fair or the fairgrounds should be submitted in writing to the county administrator, who would relay them to the board.
