A remodeling project in Ashland started just over a year ago has finally been completed and honors those who served. Members of the Sons of the American Legion Squadron have been working on restoring the town’s historic Howitzer. The idea came from a picture of Vice Commander Walter Gurske’s grandfather. The big gun had received a basic paint job in the 90’s and when Gurske’s grandfather died, a photo of the gun surfaced and the idea to refurbish it was born. Memorial Day 2022 the project was announced and donations were made. The refurbished gun made its debut on the fourth of July. The Legion post will hold a re-dedication ceremony later today.
