A conservancy has completed the purchase of an abandoned ski resort in Northern Michigan, and it will soon become a popular recreational destination.After a successful $8 million fundraising drive, the Leelanau Conservancy announced this week it had completed the acquisition of the long-closed resort. Public access and ecological restoration of the 288-acre property are now underway.“This moment belongs to the entire community,” said Tom Nelson, the conservancy’s executive director. “This transfer marks years of hard labor, tremendous generosity, and a shared determination that this site should be safeguarded forever and lovingly cared for. Sugar Loaf has inspired so many generations.”
