Spectrum is finishing a multi-year fiber broadband expansion in Vilas and Oneida counties, bringing high-speed internet to over 4,500 homes and businesses in Three Lakes, Sugar Camp, Phelps, Conover, and Manitowish Waters. Spectrum’s Mark Olejniczak anticipates full completion in northern Three Lakes by July.
The expansion also covered all of Manitowish Waters and underserved parts of Eagle River. The service, which includes TV, landline, and cell options, has garnered significant interest. Olejniczak detailed the complex infrastructure process, noting competition from Frontier and Starlink. The project received $2,619,798 in funding from the Wisconsin Public Service Commission and the federal Rural Digital Opportunity Fund, complemented by private Spectrum investment.
