The Vilas County Board rejected Chairman Jerry Burkett’s proposed sale of nearly 1,000 feet of Riverside Park’s fairground complex. The LakelandTimes reports the sale, intended for revenue and pre-zoned for 10 housing parcels by the Eagle River city council despite public opposition, was defeated 16-3. Citing constituent feedback, lack of an environmental study, and the land’s history with the Lac du Flambeau tribe, the board overrode Burkett’s attempt to delay the vote. A fairgrounds committee and environmental study will still take place.
