Local Facility Off Limits To Wintertime Use

Copper Peak in Ironwood Township is currently off-limits to all winter activities, including skiing, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling. According to TheDailyGlobe, vice president of the Copper Peak Board of Directors, Jim Durkee said the closure is due to construction hazards. A year-long, $20 million state-funded project is underway to restore the ski jump for international competitions and although construction is paused for the winter, the closure remains essential because of safety risks posed by metal rods, some of which are concealed by snow. The grounds are under 24-hour video surveillance to deter trespassing, as Durkee noted that “a lot of people like to go up there and play.”
