Wood Claims Censure is Way Out of Line

Following a Nov. 10 censure, the Gogebic County Board of Commissioners escalated action against member Daniel Wood on Nov. 19, unanimously voting (with Wood opposing) to ask for his resignation. Chairman Daniel Siirila requested Wood provide his current address by Monday. According to TheDailyGlobe, Wood said he was “shocked” by the censure, calling the reaction to the credit card use “way out of proportion.” He claimed he received no training and that he intended to repay the county for expenses like spa use and room service if they were not covered by per diem, which he said other counties permit. Wood said that state law only requires 173 days of in-district residency and that he would verify his address. County administrator Juliane Giackino reported on Monday that Wood had not yet provided that information.
