Wisconsin Gun Deer Season To Open With Some Changes

Wisconsin’s nine-day gun deer season runs from Saturday, Nov. 22, through Sunday, Nov. 30. The later 2025 opener could be expected to reduce deer movement, though cold and snow could help. As of Oct. 31, just under 464,000 licenses were sold, including over 137,000 for gun privileges. Hunters should note the new, numbered, habitat-based Deer Management Units (DMUs) in the Northern Forest Management Zones, replacing the previous county-based system for more effective management. Hunters should review new DMU maps. The DNR urges hunters to donate harvested deer through the Deer Donation Program to support food pantries. The DNR’s Online Deer Camp offers resources for licenses, regulations, shooting hours, and public land maps. Find that resource at dnr.wisconsin.gov/gohunting.
