Residents in Disaster Declared Counties Could See Tax Relief

Following a state of emergency declaration by Governor Whitmer, Michigan State Treasurer Rachael Eubanks has announced that individuals and businesses in Houghton and Ontonagon counties affected by the July 23, 2025 floods are eligible for state tax extension relief. The relief, which includes waived penalties and interest, is not automatic and must be requested via eService, mail, or phone. Taxpayers need to provide their name, account number, a description of how they were affected, and an address within the emergency area. Further details are available in a Treasury-issued Taxpayer Notice and at michigan.gov/taxes. Taxpayers should also contact the IRS for federal relief.
