The Bayfield Apple Festival, a highlight for both residents and visitors, has grown into one of the largest events in the Lake Superior area, beginning in 1962 when local orchard owner Jimmy Erickson’s truck broke down en route to Duluth, prompting him to return to Bayfield and sell his apples locally, and that led to the very first Apple Festival, where they had 4,000 to 6,000 people come to celebrate the harvest in Bayfield,
This year marks the 63rd annual Bayfield Apple Festival, scheduled for October 3rd through the 5th. Recognized as one of Wisconsin’s best, the festival offers a weekend packed with food and craft vendors, live music-including Big Top Chautauqua’s Blue Canvas Orchestra-a carnival, and a parade featuring the newly crowned Apple Queen. All local orchards will be open to visitors. For complete details on the weekend celebration, visit bayfield.org/bayfield-apple-festival.
