First New Housing Development in Decades Underway in Hurley

A new 40-unit affordable housing complex on Odanah Road North, a collaboration between Impact 7 and Northwood Technical College, broke ground in Hurley late last week. Supported by the City Council, Iron County, Cinnaire, and The Wisconsin Housing & Economic Development Authority-WHEDA, the project on over 14 acres north of Wisconsin 77 will include a community building with a Workforce Accelerator classroom.Constructon started in August, moving along well despite some wet weather. Mayor Joanne Bruneau, highlighted the project’s significance as Hurley’s first major development in 30 years. Dr. John Will of Northwood Technical College said families should be moving in next year, while Mai Xiong of WHEDA highlighted the ongoing need for affordable housing. Kelly Kline was recognized for her work on the property sale.
