Michigan DNR Conservation Officers rescued two paddleboarders, a 29-year-old Minnesota woman and a 37-year-old Illinois woman, in distress on Lake Superior on Friday afternoon. The two were about a mile offshore, didn’t have life jackets and had only one paddle after one had been lost in the wind, and were unable to paddle against strong winds, drifting an additional mile. One had no prior paddleboarding experience. DNR Law Enforcement Division Chief Jason Haines commended the rescue, emphasizing the dangers of changing weather, inexperience, and lack of precautions on the Great Lakes.
