Visitors are advised their trip to Porcupine Mountains may be adding some mileage to their trips as the South Boundary Road will close for repairs through mid-September. The closures are scheduled for Aug. 25-29, Sept. 2-5, and Sept. 8-9, with re-opening at 7 p.m. EST on the last day of each period. Visitors are advised to use the highway system, adding mileage to their trips. Recommended detours from West to East should take County Road 519 S to M-28 E at Bergland to M-64 N at Silver City, then M-107 W. East to West take M-107 to Silver City, then M-64 S at Bergland to M-28 W, then County Road 519 N before Wakefield. All backcountry camping, cabin, and yurt reservations require check-in at the Visitor’s Center anytime between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. Eastern. Union Bay and Presque Isle visitors should check in at their designated campground. The park apologizes for the inconvenience and thanks the Ontonagon County Road Commission.
