The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources reminds boat owners to check their crafts before heading to the lake. The DNR’s Clean Boats, Clean Waters initiative aims to keep invasive species out of local bodies of water. The program recommends taking basic steps, including inspecting boats before leaving, removing anything attached to the boat, draining water from the boat, throwing away used bait in the trash and not bringing plants or live fish into another waterway. Also, staying in just one lake minimizes the spread of invasives. At boat ramps across Wisconsin, volunteers and paid staff inspect boats.
