A feasibility study for an additional nine miles of bike trail in Mercer has been finalized. The entire project will now be divided into phases, with funding to be secured and when complete will make the Mercer Bike Loop Expansion Project a 26 mile loop, taking riders through some of the most beautiful parts of the area. According to Brenda Nelson of the Iron County Outdoor Recreation Enthusiasts group or ICORE board, the initial phase is estimated to cost approximately one million dollars, which will hopefully be funded by grants. To kickstart fundraising efforts, ICORE is organizing the Mercer Bike Fest and Loon Ride on Saturday, August 2nd. This event will also serve as a prelude to the Annual Loon Days, commencing on August 6th. Attendees can register for rides covering 7, 24, or 50 miles, and enjoy food, live music, games, and raffles at Carow Park.
