Some 70 racers competed in over 100 races during the second annual Sweetest Wake on Sunday Lake this weekend. The event, was hosted again this year by the International Watercross Association, along with the non-profit Wakefield Encourages Community Athletics Recreation Entertainment or WECARE. Watercross required a special build of snowmobile, which can take hundreds of hours to create. Racers describe it as a mix between deep snow riding and riding on a stand up jet ski. The IWA is a non-profit, driver run organization and for many years events were held on Lake Linden. On the way, racers passed Sunday Lake and the idea to race there happened. IWA President Rachel O’Brien said they were thrilled with this year’s turnout and were also thrilled to have the association with the city of Wakefield.
