One the U.P.’s most popular scenic drives is open for the season. Brockway Mountain Drive just west of Copper Harbor on the Keweenaw Peninsula is now open to the public. The almost nine mile stretch of road closes for the winter season, but now the gates are open and snow is cleared for drivers to be able to see panoramic views of Lake Superior and the forests of Copper Country, as one of the highest scenic roadways above sea level in the US between the Rocky and Allegheny mountains. Recognized nationally for its picturesque views, the drive was built nearly 100 years ago at the top of a 700 foot ridge as a work project during the Great Depression. The area offers a variety of activities, including mountain biking, bird watching and snowmobiling in the winter.
