An Ironwood resident will be looking for a new place to live after a fire at his home in the 900 block of Washington Street. TheDailyGlobe reports Robby Lampart smelled smoke in his house and found the bedroom on fire. The Ironwood Public Safety Department responded to the call around 3:27 pm and had the fire under control by just before 4 pm. Units remained on the scene to mop up and to watch for any flareups throughout the evening. Lampart was able to find and grab one of his four cats, two more escaped unharmed and were found later, firefighters rescued the fourth animal. The ISPD thanked Xcel Energy, Beacon Ambulance, the Gogebic County Sheriff’s Department, and Michigan State Police Post 86 in Wakefield for assistance. Sgt. Brandon Snyder who is also ISPD’s fire marshal said the cause of the blaze is being investigated.
