Wisconsin Schools Waiting For Clarification On DEI Mandate

Wisconsin schools will not immediately comply with directives to gut DEI programs until the Trump Administration clarifies both the intent and legality of the directive that schools must sign a letter acknowledging that they are following the interpretation of federal civil rights laws. TheDailyPress reports State Superintendent Jill Underly has said, “we cannot stand by while the current administration threatens our schools with unnecessary and potentially unlawful mandates based on political beliefs…Our responsibility is to ensure Wisconsin students receive the best education possible, and that means allowing schools to make local decisions based on what is best for their kids and their communities.” School districts in a “Dear Colleague” letter from February have been encouraged to use a “measured and thoughtful approach, rather than immediate or reactionary responses to the federal government’s concerns.” School districts have until the 24 to sign a letter acknowledging compliance or lose all Title I funding.
