Work Continues on Putting This Years Fair Together

The Gogebic County Fair Board held a meeting on Monday night and voted to submit a grant application to the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development. TheDailyGlobe reports the grant would be for $100,000. Board Chair Linda Nelson suggested that if the grant is approved, repaving part of the fairground would be a good way to spend that money, with a number of public comments saying that access for those in wheelchairs and carriages would be difficult, given the state of the roadway from the east and the east gate. Part of what the MDARD grant committee looks for is proposals that would serve the largest number of people and Nelson thought making access easier for everyone would meet that criteria perfectly. The board also discussed a contract form for the rental of the multipupose building at the fairground. The board also learned that no applications have been received as of yet for the fair coordinator position, they review projected expenses for 2025, fundraising opportunities and arrangments for social media management. The next meeting of the fair board is on the 12th.
