The Chequamegon Kite Fest is this Saturday from 1 to 4. This years Kite Fest will take place at Thompson’s West End Park on Lake Superior in Washburn and Sara Linafelter anticipates another great event. The Fest started in 2018, when it was connected to the Book Across the Bay. COVID halted the Book Across the Bay event, and Linafelter and her partner and the Ashland Parks and Recreation Department decided to hold the event as a standalone, and it has been building ever since. The forecast is for breezy conditions with temperatures in the low 30’s, so warm clothing will be a must, hand and foot warmers just in case and Linafelter says she always pitches an ice fishing tent as a wind break to warm up in. There will also be a firepit near the park pavilion. She hopes to have free kites for the kids while supplies last and some loaner kites provided by Chequamegon Kiting. The park has plenty of space for folks to sit in their vehicles and watch the kites fly. Linafelter is hoping for at least 30 kites in the air at once.
