At the first meeting of 2025, new members Joe Cayer, Stephanie Matonich and Dan Wood were welcomed, along with returning members Linda Nelson, Shelley Suckow, Holly Ramme and Melinda Kostak. The board then held its annual reorganization, electing Linda Nelson as chair and Shelley Suckow as vice chair. Nelson then presented the board with a tentative schedule for this year’s fair, which according to TheDailyGlobe, had the fair returning to the county fairgrounds after being held at the Pat O’Donnell Civic Center last yaer. The board continues to search for a carnival midway for this year’s event. Horse races are expected to return on both Friday and Saturday. Chicken bingo is not expected to return, with a suggestion put to the board that regular bingo be hosted, contingent on the board securing a gambling license for the event. The board also discussed asking the Gogebic County Board of Commissioners to post the vacant position of Fair Coordinator as soon as possible, and also heard brief public comment on what else could be added to the fair. The board holds its next meeting on February 3rd.
